MINE MINE

ABSTRACT

The definition of mine is a reference to a thing or things that belong to the person speaking: the possessive form of I, used without a following noun, often after of: the absolute for ME, that book is mine; mine are better; he is a friend of mine used before a word beginning with a vowel or the letter. Origin of the word mine is from Middle English min; from Middle French; from Vulgar Latin an unverified form mina; from Celt, as in Irish mein, akin to German Mein: for base see me. Archaic (Old Fashioned) my; also used after a noun in direct address: mine daughter to indicate possession. The word ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ (Mine Mine) comes about 24 times in Sabd Guru (AGGS).

ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਗਏ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਸਾਥਿ

Merī merī kar gae ṯan ḏẖan kalaṯ na sāth. Bin nāvai ḏẖan bāḏ hai bẖūlo mārag āth. Sācẖao sāhib sevīai gurmukẖ aktho kāth.
Crying out, "Mine! Mine!” they have departed, but their bodies, their wealth, and their wives did not go with them. Without the Name, wealth is useless; deceived by wealth, they have lost their way. So, serve the God; become Guru oriented, and speak the Unspoken.-----Guru Nanak, Siri Raag, Page, 59-14

Synonyms of the word "Mine Mine" spiritually refers to: Maya: of possession or property (noun) acquisition, effects, empire, holding, kingdom, land, property, realm, territory, wealth, worth, assets, belongings, chattel, domain, estate, farm, fixtures, goods, ground, inheritance, legacy, manor, possessions, principal, ranch, real estate, realty, resources, stock, title. A deep sense of love and belonging/possession is an irreducible need of all people. We are biologically, cognitively, physically, and spiritually wired to love, to be loved, and to belong. When those needs are not met, we don't function as we were meant to. We break. We fall apart. We numb. We ache. We hurt others. We get sick. Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance. The sense of belonging is a false one as one comes to this world with nothing and nothing one takes with after death.
Following are the examples of the word Mine Mine in Sabd Guru:

ਸੰਚੇ ਸੰਚਿ ਦੇਈ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਮੇਰੀ

People gather and hoard their possessions, and give nothing to anyone else - the poor fools think that everything is his. Riches do not remain with anyone - not even the golden palaces of Sri Lanka.------Guru Nanak, Raag Gauri Cheti, Page 155-7

The more attachment and egotism delude and confuse the individual, the more the person cries out, "Mine, Mine!", and the more he/she loses out. Person grows old, his/her body and youth waste away, and his/her throat is plugged with mucous; water flows from his eyes. His/her feet fail him/her, and his/her hands shake and tremble; the faithless cynic does not enshrine the God in his heart. -----Guru Nanak, Raag Maru, Page 1014-4

Practicing egotism and possessiveness, you have come into the world. Hope and desire bind you and lead you on. Indulging in egotism and self-conceit ("Mine, Mine!"), what will you be able to carry with you, except the load of ashes from poison and corruption? -----Guru Nanak, Raag Maru Page 1031-2

Crying out for the wealth and riches of Maya, they die; but Maya does not go along with them. The soul-swan arises and departs, sad and depressed, leaving its wealth behind. The false mind is hunted by the Messenger of Death; it carries its faults along when it goes. The mind turns inward, and merges with mind, when it is with virtue.  Crying out, "Mine, Mine!” they have died, but without the Name, they find only pain.  -----Guru Nanak, Raag Ramkali, Page, 935-936

The self-willed die in their self-willed stubbornness, declaring that the wealth of Maya is theirs. They attach their consciousness to the foul-smelling pile of filth, which comes for a moment, and departs in an instant.-----Guru Ram Das, Raag Asa, AGGS page 442-9

Caught by the pain of Maya, provoked by his ego, he passes his life crying out, "Mine, Mine!” He does not remember God, the Giver, and in the end, he departs regretting and repenting. Without the Name, nothing shall go along with him; not his children, spouse or the enticements of Maya. In the love of duality, there is pain and suffering; the Messenger of Death eyes the self-willed. -----Guru Ram Das, Raag Dhanasari, AGGS page 690-12

One may perform all sorts of religious rituals and good actions, but does not know the Creator God, the Doer of all. One teaches, but does not practice what one preaches and does not realize the essential reality of the Word of the Sabd. O Siblings of Destiny, peace is found in the Company of the Holy. If the Supreme God, the Architect of Destiny, writes such an order, then anguish and anxiety are erased. There are so many places-I have wandered through them all. The masters of wealth and the great land-lords have fallen, crying out, "This is Mine! This is Mine!"-----Guru Arjun, Siri Raag, Page 42-17

Power, property, youth, household, fame and the beauty of youth; great wealth, elephants, horses and jewels, purchased with tens of thousands of dollars; hereafter, these shall be of no avail in the Court of the God; the proud must depart, leaving them behind. Why center your consciousness on any other than the God? Sitting down, standing up, sleeping and waking, forever and ever, meditate on the God.  He may have the most wondrous and beautiful arenas, and be victorious on the field of battle. He may proclaim, "I can kill anyone, I can capture anyone, and I can release anyone". But when the Order comes from the Supreme God, individual departs and leaves in a day. He may perform all sorts of religious rituals and good actions, but he does not know the Creator God, the Doer of all. He teaches, but does not practice what he preaches; he does not realize the essential reality of the Word of the Sabd. Naked One came, and naked One shall depart; he is like an elephant, throwing dust on himself.  O Saints, and friends, listen to me: all this world is false .Continually claiming, "Mine, mine", the mortals are drowned; the fools waste away and die. Meeting the Guru, O Nanak, I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the God; through the True Name, I am emancipated. -----Guru Arjun, Raag Asa, AGGS, Page, 380

Body, wealth and youth pass away. You have not meditated and vibrated upon the God's Name; while you commit your sins of corruption in the night, the light of day dawns upon you. The plans remain in the mind. An individual does not meditate on God, nor does he/she perform service at sacred shrines, and so death seizes him/her by the hair.  Wife, friends, children, carriages, property, total wealth, the entire world -know that all of these things are false.God's meditation alone is true. Wandering, wandering around for so many ages, he has grown weary, and finally, he obtained this human body. Says Nanak, this is the opportunity to meet the God; why don't you remember It in meditation?-----Guru Tegh Bahadur, Raag Sorath, AGGS, Page, 631

They dig deep foundations and build lofty palaces. Can anyone live longer than Markanda, (a Sage/ devotee of both Shiva and Vishnu) who passed his days with only a handful of straw upon his head? The Creator God is our only friend. O man, why are you so proud? This body is only temporary - it shall pass away. The Kaurvas (characters of the Mahabharata), who had brothers like Duryodhan (characters of the Mahabharata), used to proclaim, "This is ours! This is ours! Their royal procession extended over sixty miles, and yet their bodies were eaten by vultures.  Sri Lanka (Ceylon) was totally rich with gold; was anyone greater than its ruler Raavan? What happened to the elephants, tethered at his gate? In an instant, it all belonged to someone else. The Yaadvas (Descendants of a mythical king) deceived Durbaasaa, and received their rewards. The God has shown mercy to Its humble servant, and now Naam Dev sings the Glorious Praises of the God. -----Bhagat Nam Dev, Raag Dhanasari, AGGS Page 653
